Art Studio Assistant (Student Assistant II)
Rate: $15/hour
Hours: 10-20 hours per week (varies)

Overview:
The Art Studio Assistant will provide administrative support for the Berkeley Art Studio Office and maintenance support to the Art Studio, which is home to a ceramics studio and a darkroom. Students who are passionate and knowledgeable about ceramics, darkroom photography, or arts administration are preferred. This position reports to the Berkeley Art Studio Manager.
The Studio Assistant should be able to work evenings and/or weekends. Shifts run from 4:30pm-10:30pm Monday-Friday and/or 9:30am-5:30pm Saturday-Sunday. In addition, the student assistants will meet bi-weekly; date/time to be determined. This position is required to attend customer service training sessions in late late January/February 2020.
Qualifications:
  • Must be UC Berkeley Undergraduate or Graduate student
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills required
  • Organized, punctual, good communication skills (including ability to use diplomacy/discretion)
  • Knowledge of Mac OS X computers, experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.) Photoshop a plus.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and active environment
  • Must be able to work evening or weekend shifts (shifts are always within the following time frame: 4:30pm-10:30pm Mon.–Fri, or 9:30am-5:30pm Sat, Sun)
  • Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects
  • Must be organized and have strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Responsive to email by next business day
  • UCPD Live Scan required
  • Work Study preferred
  • Knowledge and passion for ceramics, darkroom photography, and/or arts administration is preferred

Job Duties:
1. Studio Support
  • Learn the functions of the entire Art Studio, and perform basic staff duties and responsibilities for all sections, including photography, ceramics, painting and drawing
  • Maintain a clean studio, observing and enforcing all safety and general rules of the Art Studio
  • Set-up and breakdown of the Art Studio’s photography darkroom
  • Responsible for opening and closing procedures including cleaning and securing the Art Studio 
  • Assist with artmaking experiences such as artmaking on Upper Sproul Plaza and Crafter Dark on Thursday evenings in the Student Union
2. Customer Service
  • Handle all cash register procedures
  • Answer phones, check and return voicemails, and manage Art Studio’s email inquiries
  • Register students for classes and membership
  • Answer students questions about the Studio and its offerings
  • Assist instructors in class nightly set up
3. Administrative
  • Assist in maintaining the Art Studio’s database
  • Assist with graphics and advertising
  • Assist Art Studio Manager with a variety of administrative tasks

ASUC Student Union Business Development & Finance
Billing Specialist

The Business & Finance Billing Specialist is responsible for ASUC Student Union (SU) Event Services accounts receivable (A/R), including event invoicing, payment processing, collections, and financial reporting.
Event Services plans over 3,000 events a year for student groups, campus departments, and public clients in SU managed spaces including the MLK Student Union, Anna Head Alumnae Hall, campus outdoor spaces, and the Career Center.
Responsibilities
Assist in the processing of A/R transactions, including event billing, payment processing, collections, and financial reporting:
•Ensure accurate client payment data on Event Management Software (EMS) system.
•Ensure accurate and timely processing of client invoices and payments, including cash, checks, credit cards, and internal IOCs. Code payments and revenue shares to appropriate accounts.
•Maintain client credit card forms.
•Prepare department financial reports, including Ageing Report, Billing Worksheet, and Career Center Billing. Follow up with stakeholders as necessary.
•Prepare weekly CDS deposit.
•Review Ageing Report to identify clients (RSOs and Campus Departments) no longer eligible to use Event Services’ facilities.
Required Qualifications
•Proficiency working with computer and information systems, including MS Office software and Google applications (bMail, bCal, Drive). Ability to learn and correctly use EMS system.
•Ability to complete responsibilities timely and accurately; attention to detail; ability to prioritize and multitask.
•Must be punctual and have excellent communication and people skills. Ability to maintain a courteous and professional relationship with clients and co-workers.
•Currently registered UC Berkeley undergraduate, 1st or 2nd year. Work-Study.
•Hours: 12-15 hours per week. Dates and times are flexible. Must work at least 2 hours per day during Office Hours.
•Available to work summer session.
Preferred Qualifications
•Business, Accounting, or Finance major.
Other
•Successful completion of a background check although applicants may receive an offer of contingent employment pending the outcome.
•Must adhere to UCB policies and procedures and the ASUC SU Work Agreement.

ASUC Student Union Event Services
Event Planning Assistant Position
Job Description / 2018-2019
Event Services at the ASUC Student Union provides comprehensive event planning and consultation, as well as versatile venue spaces. We partner with clients to arrange the appropriate venue space and plan a successful event within budget. Event Services assist groups with all the event planning details, including catering, linens, décor, and audio­-visual. Event planners also hold event planning client meetings, create space diagrams, confirm space is secured, and confirm campus permits are filled out, approved and on file in a timely manner.

JOB DUTIES:
-Assist in proactive planning, communication and scheduling of a wide variety of events including meetings, conferences, receptions, networking events and outdoor functions.
-Communicate with clients in a professional and friendly manner, throughout the planning process.
-Conduct event planning meetings with clients.
-Respond to client inquiries via email and phone within 48 hours
-Create contracts and maintain a record of event details using Event Management Systems (“EMS”) software.
-Keep event reservations current as changes are requested using Event Management Systems (“EMS”) software.
-Communicate event details and changes to the Event Services team to ensure seamless event operations.
-Provide clients with updates on event details, vendor contracts and pricing, all in a timely manner.
-Create space diagrams using Social Tables.
-Research and secure equipment and rentals as needed.
-Ensure that all events comply with campus policies
-Work with campus partners to obtain necessary permits. Ensure permits are filled out, approved and on file in a timely manner.
-Help coordination of overall event execution on site.
-Other duties as assigned.
      OTHER:
-Must wear ASUC Student Union shirt, name badge, and close-toed shoes while on-shift

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
-The period of employment for this position begins upon hire and continues at least through the end of the 2019 academic year.
-Must be a currently enrolled UC Berkeley student.
-Must be available to work 15+ hours per week during the academic year.
-Must be available to work 15+ hours per week during the summer.
-Required to work over one academic break (ie. Winter Break, Spring Break)
-Must participate in Event Planning Assistant Training.
-Required to attend all-staff training.
-Required to work a minimum of 2-hours at each of the following annual events: Cal Day (April), Open House (February) and Summerfest (June).
-Required to attend staff meetings and trainings, as scheduled.
-Must clear a criminal background check.
-Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory job performance evaluation.
-Must be able to complete projects as assigned.
-Fill out an availability sheet to show your schedule each semester.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-Minimum 1 year of college completed.
-Strong organizational and project management skills, working with cross­-functional teams.
-Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Apps.
-Interest in learning Event Management Systems software, Google Apps, and Social Tables.
-Excellent written and verbal communication.
-Willingness to learn new processes

Marketing Photographer

Rate: $15 hour (dependent on experience)

Overview:

The ASUC Student Union Marketing Department is looking for dynamic photographers to enhance the marketing presence for ASUC Student Union and it’s departments. The Marketing Photographer will work under the direction of a full-time staff member of the ASUC Student Union Marketing team. If you think you have what it takes to capture the visual story of campus, then apply today!

The Marketing Photographer should be able to work several hours during regular office hours (Monday-Friday 9-5pm) as well as outside traditional office hours (including some nights and weekends).

Qualifications:

– Experience with DSLR cameras on manual settings and shooting in RAW.
– Strong understanding of photography fundamentals including: light, composition, exposure, depth of field, shutter speed, and ISO.
– Experience photographing indoor and outdoor events in a variety of contexts.
– Comfortable photographing people.
– Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Lightroom, or similar applications.
– Experience editing images from small touch ups, like cropping, to full photo manipulations, like clone stamping.
– Comfortable collaborating with other members of the Student Union team.
– Takes initiative and welcomes constructive criticism.
– Work study preferred.

Job Duties:

– Produce high-quality photography for a variety of events including, but not limited to: campus-wide events, Student Union hosted events and workshops, student org events, weddings, corporate events, etc.
– Take portraits of ASUC Student Union staff.
– Produce well-composed, editorial photography for web, social media, and other marketing channels.
– Collaborate with social media staff on ways to enhance posts through visual aids.
– Retouch and enhance photos.
– Export/save images for correct application.
