The food in the Student Union Dining Room is poppin' with 3 new restaurants every month. We're taking you on a pop-up dining adventure!
This month's pop-ups include all women minority owned businesses: Sariwa, Bini's Kitchen, and Mixiote. Sariwa means "fresh" in Filipino, all recipes are inspired by vibrant flavors and local California ingredients. Bini's Kitchen serves mouth watering authentic Nepalese cuisine from the soul. Mixiote's recipes are prepared with traditional techniques from Mexico City to create fresh tacos and taco bowls from scratch.
All three business are participants in La Cocina's food business incubator. La Cocina's incubator program is a best-in-class economic development program, inspiring international replication and creating lasting economic opportunity for immigrant women entrepreneurs who are low income. There are currently 26 brick and mortar locations run by La Cocina graduates, and in the La Cocina program participants generated $13 million in revenue and created over 150 jobs. La Cocina and it's entrepreneurs are shaping the Bay Area's food culture into a more equitable system; fighting for race and gender equity one small food business at a time.
